Take me back to Memphis
03:53
|
|
||
I was playing on the corner
In front of a shop in Times Square
I asked myself brother
How in the Hell you get there?
You're a Southern boy and you're wasting your youth
You just don't belong here and that's the God's truth
Take me back to Memphis
I gotta get back to my roots
Take me back to Memphis
oh why on earth did I roam?
Take me back to Memphis
I don't wanna die here (alone)
I woulda stayed there if I only had known
I don't wanna freeze here, I'm cold to the bone
Take me back to Memphis
I gotta get back to my home
* Hold the bus! Wait for us!
Too much snow! Got to go!
Take me back to Memphis
I gotta get back to my home
* Hold the bus! Wait for us…
Take me back to Memphis
I finally figured it out
Take me back to Memphis
I should not have been full of doubt
I'll find a stage to play and I'll jam all night long
It may not be right but it couldn't be wrong
Take me back to Memphis
Back to the place I belong
Take me back to Memphis
Where I belong

Blame Me
04:53
|
|
||
She said she had to blame me,
She said she had no choice,
She had, she had to blame me,
she felt she had no choice,
because she couldn't blame herself,
I could hear it in her voice.
So she had to blame me,
because she couldn't face the truth.
She blamed me,
and the blame was absolute.
She said that I was guilty,
and I'd stolen all her youth.
… and I'd stolen all her youth.
She said, she said I was at fault,
or so she did believe.
it was all my fault,
that what she did conceive.
I was the only one who's guilty,
and of that there's no reprieve.
So if this happens,
if this should happen next to you.
don't let it happen,
because you know it isn't true.
life is much too short to blame,
someone else for what you do.

First time with a Boy
that makes your mind whirl
a boy look so nice
you had to look twice
alone in the dark
listen to your heart
it's getting' late
and he won't wait
* Daddy gave you talks
since you could walk
but the one thing he missed
is how to kiss
That girl that you like
has those dreamy eyes
when she's around (when he's around)
you want to get down
* Just wet your lips (How to kiss)
Not too crisp (How to kiss)
Just like this
How to kiss

My Classmate
02:21
|
|
||
She was my classmate for a while
I never said a word
and then she must have moved away
to where I never heard
I wanted to get near her
I wanted to say "hi"
I don't know why I was afraid
or why I was so shy
I should have made a move
I should have touched her hand
I often think about her
I do not understand
She was my classmate for a while…

The Robber Bridegroom
04:11
|
|
||
Once there was a miller
who had a daughter fair
with silver bells, ringing her voice
and moonbeams in her hair
He promised her to one he thought
was kind and well to do
but the man was in disguise
the father never knew
The suitor told his bride to be
to meet him if she could
to follow long, a trail of ashes
deep into the wood
And there she saw within a house
a caged up mockingbird
who filled her mind with fear and doubts
and this is what she heard:
"Turn back, turn back, thou bonnie bride,
nor in this house of death abide
cause if you hold your life so dear
there is nothing for you here"
The old cook in the cellar
to protect her hid her fast
in the kitchen corner
in a wooden iron cask
The robber bridegroom came at last
a lady they had caught
and butchered her upon the table
and of her jewels they fought
A finger with a single ring
fell where the maid did hide
she reached out with a trembling hand
and pulled it deep inside
The old cook drugged their wine
and the two women ran away
and kept the story secret till
the maiden's wedding day
The robber bridegroom and his band
all showed up for the feast
for a surprise that they did not
expect it in the least
Before the vows were taken
all the village gathered bold
to listen to a story
that the miller's daughter told
She said that in a dream
a group of outlaws ate the dead
that they had captured in the forest
the crowd was full of dread
And then the bride she pointed
to the groom and said "It's you!
and all your men are evil!
Every word I've said is true !"
Four and twenty men were hanged
upon the hanging tree
and all who's left to tell the story
are only thee and me

Geeshie sing the blues
Geeshie sing the blues
Geeshie sing the blues and it's all bad news
Geeshie sing the blues
Daddy gone to war
Daddy gone to war
I dunno what for
Daddy gone to war
Momma lain in bed
Momma lain in bed
Momma lain in bed and her eyes are red
Momma lain in bed
Daddy gone to war
Daddy gone to war
Won't be back no more
Daddy gone to war
I used to be a baby but now I'm grown
I used to no nothing but now I'm knowin'
that there aint no use to go to war alone
and when you die cover up with stone
Daddy gone to war
Daddy gone to war
Won't be back no more
Daddy gone to war

Working Too Hard
02:53
|
|
||
My eyes are all bleary and red
An ice-pick is driving it`s way through my head
I ain`t going crazy, no I ain`t going crazy
Ain`t going crazy, just working too hard, that`s all
Running around to make ends meet
Nothing acomplished, nothing complete
I ain`t going crazy, no I ain`t going crazy
Ain`t going crazy, just working too hard, that`s all
How I wish, how I wish the rain would fall
How I wish, how I wish the rain would fall
I`m so tired, of [Gm]running into walls
That`s all
Even when the madness stops
I still wait for the other shoe to drop
I ain`t going crazy, no I ain`t going crazy
Ain`t going crazy, just working too hard, that`s all
Ain`t doing too bad,
but my back`s up against the wall
I ain`t crazy, just working too hard, that`s all

Lord Deliver Me
03:09
|
|
||
Sail across tsunami sea
Lord deliver me
Sky and water misery
Lord deliver me
Take me from this hurricane
Lightning thunder gone insane
Where every bit of air is rain
Lord deliver me
Climbing up the earthquake hill
Lord deliver me
Any moment could be killed
Lord deliver me
High volcano at the top
Into fire I might drop
Ground is shaking never stop
Lord deliver me
* Pluck my heart out of the air
Save my soul from deep despair
Bring me to Thy loving care
Lord deliver me
Lord deliver me
I was blind but now I see
Lord deliver me
Answer to my deepest prayer
Lord deliver me
I've done all I could have dared
Lord deliver me
Before all my time is shut
Let me drink from mercy cup
Before the wine is all used up
Lord deliver me

He floats on the wind
like an eagle in the breeze,
higher and higher
on imagination's perfect wings.
He will rise up alone,
It is clear to me now
will he ever stop?
Or will he fall prey to doubt.
Like we've all tried before,
he has taken to the sky,
from the torturous of earth,
to the heights of the unknown.
There's some truth to it all,
but mostly it's false,
this is something that we
can not control.

What was the what I thought I knew ?
What is what is what is true?
If red is red and blue is blue
And one plus one plus none is two
I just don't know what I should do
I haven't got a clue
A man's a man or so I'm told
A woman has an eye for gold
You have the ticket bought and sold
God made you then he broke the mold
You hold together without glue
You haven't got a clue
What is truth? what is youth?
The sound of rain up on the roof
What is not? what is real?
I can't understand the way I feel
So you when you ask me to explain
My only answer is my pain
You maybe think that I'm insane
So I will tell you once again
From Alcatraz to Timbuktu
You haven't got a clue
I just don't know what I should do
I haven't got a clue
You hold together without glue
You haven't got a clue
I just don't know what I should do
I haven't got a clue
